Rome and the Amalfi Coast, Slowly and Deliciously

Seven days split between two bases: three nights in Rome for ancient sights and serious eating, then three on the Amalfi Coast for boats, lemon groves and long lunches. There is only one hotel change, with a scenic train-and-ferry journey between them. Mornings carry the sightseeing, afternoons are left open, and every evening centres on a table. All figures are planning estimates.

Getting around

Transportation & logistics

  • Rome to Salerno by fast train takes about two hours, and the ferry on to Positano takes roughly an hour in season. Check the May ferry timetable, and have a private car as a fallback.
  • Rome's cobbles are tiring, so use the official taxi app or a rank for longer hops.
  • Colosseum and Forum entries are timed, so book these well ahead.
  • Positano is built on steps, so pack light and ask your hotel about porters.
  • The Amalfi coastal road is slow and busy, so plan car journeys with generous margins.
  • Departure timing depends on your flight, so reconfirm the Positano-to-airport transfer once you have your times.
